Set of 12 Adderly's Cobalt Blue & White Transferware Dinner Plates with Cherubs, taken from the design and engraving of Michel Angelo Cipriani, ca. 1760's. Cipriani & Pergolesi were both Italian decorative artists from the 18th century who worked mainly in England.
The fanciful border of birds and flowers frames the central subject of cherubs frolicking amongst a basket of grapes and vines evoking Bacchus. The rich cobalt blue contrasts with the crisp clean lines of the transfer engraving and would make a lively display. These are in amazing condition, perhaps, never used before. Dated 1880, made in England.
