This dessert set is unusual in both the decoration and the shapes of the plates. Consisting of 10 shaped rimmed dessert plates and a matching footed compote, the hand painted daisies are placed off-center and embellished with raised paste gold leaves. The white petals contrast beautifully with the deep, rich cobalt blue ground and each piece is framed with an undulating ivory border. The Aesthetic Movement motif is exemplified in the Japonesque gilt decoration of the border.
Truly an uncommon and distinctive combination of decorative elements, this set is both practical and creates an elegant and appealing display. Ca. 1888, Overall excellent condition commensurate with age.
